be7635e728 ("arch, ftrace: for KASAN put hard/soft IRQ entries into
separate sections") added .softirqentry.text section, but it was not added
to recordmcount. So functions in the section are untracable. Add the
section to scripts/recordmcount.c and scripts/recordmcount.pl.

Due to our compiler include directives, the build pathnames for header
files often end up being of the form "$srcdir/./include/linux/xyz.h",
which ends up having that extra "." path component after the build base
in it.
Teach faddr2line to skip that too, to make code generated in inline
functions in header files match the filename for the regular C files.
Rabin Vincent pointed out that I can't make a stricter regexp match by
using the " at " prefix for the pathname, because that ends up being
locale-dependent. But this does require that the path match be preceded
by a space, to make it a bit more strict (that matters mainly if we
didn't find any base_dir at all, and we only end up with the "./" part
of the match)

Checking command line filenames that are outside the git tree can emit a
noisy and confusing message.
Quiet that message by redirecting stderr.
Verify that the command was executed successfully.

When attempting to build a Debian kernel package, the "scripts/gcc-plugins"
directory does not exist in the output tree unless CONFIG_GCC_PLUGINS=y.
To avoid errors when not defined, this wraps the failing "find" in a config
test.

If get_maintainer is not given any filename arguments on the command line,
the standard input is read for a patch.
But checking if a VCS has a file named &STDIN is not a good idea and fails.
Verify the nominal input file is not &STDIN before checking the VCS.

When the compiler doesn't support gcc plugins (either due to missing

instead of emitting a warning and letting the build founder with arcane

because the "Revert" prefix added pushes it over the character limit,

There are some very frequently used tags that checkpatch can look
for as an ending to the commit text rather than using a pattern,
which can generate false positives in the "no commit text" rule.

Fixed case when no warning generated for long subject line that is
wrapped to more than one line, and all lines are less than line limit.
New warning message added:
"non-blank line after summary line"
Now there are two warnings possible for the subject line, the original
line over limit and the new one. Depending on the error(s) any
combination of the two warnings are possible.
Commit text requirements now:
1) Must be less than 75 characters
2) Must be followed by blank line.

Currently checkpatch.pl throws error for any use of "dsb"
keyword. Add exceptions when it is used in a variable or a
function name. Expectations are when 'dsb' keyword is used in a
variable or a function name, it is prefixed with class [-_>*\.]

Improve parsing of multiline macros which run beyond the available
diff context. These beyond-the-horizon macros previously caused
two distinct naughty behaviors:
- The scanner, confused by the trailing backslash, would grab
the header of the next context hunk and treat it as the last
line of the preceding macro.
- The analyzer, unable to fully reduce the macro, would blame
the patch for submitting an unbalanced or unprotected macro.

checkpatch: Handle continuation headers.
Continuation headers baffle checkpatch, as it can only operate
on one line of context at a time. When continuation headers are found,
put them up with the header they're continuing so the whole thing
can be parsed in a single line of context.
checkpatch: Don't treat diffs as patches.
The patch-header cleanup code assumed that it would only ever
see patches, which was of course hogwash. This lead to crazy
results as it tried to wrap what it thought were continuation
lines at the beginnings of raw diffs.

The only legal integer return is 0, anything else
following "return" should be -ERRCODE or a function.
http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/7/23/318
There's lots of "return -1;" statements in this patch - it's obscene
that this is used to indicate "some error occurred" in kernel space
rather than a real errno value - even when an existing function
(eg, request_irq) gave you an error code already.
Please note this for the future - and please review patches on this
point internally first.

Add CLK_* macros used in MSM clock drivers to the list of exceptions
for the "Macros with complex values should be enclosed in parenthesis"
test.
Also, allow spaces following open branckets for macros where the
macro is the first token on the line, the space preceds a decimal
number, and the line ends with ")," or ")". Such arrangements can
be useful for aligning numerical columns of tables when the rows
are described by macros.

AOSP commit b13ce9f4aa6f "ARM64: add option to build
Image.gz/dtb combo" broke archclean / mrproper build
targets and we run into:
----------
./scripts/Makefile.clean:14: arch/arm64/boot/amd/Makefile: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `arch/arm64/boot/amd/Makefile'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [arch/arm64/boot/amd] Error 2
make: *** [archclean] Error 2
----------
This patch skip the missing Kbuild/Makefile reporting
error. It does the job (i.e cleanup dts/*/*.dtb and
do not spit out missing file error messages as well).

For more targeted fuzzing, it's better to disable kernel-wide
instrumentation and instead enable it on a per-subsystem basis. This
follows the pattern of UBSAN and allows you to compile in the kcov
driver without instrumenting the whole kernel.
To instrument a part of the kernel, you can use either
# for a single file in the current directory
KCOV_INSTRUMENT_filename.o := y
or
# for all the files in the current directory (excluding subdirectories)
KCOV_INSTRUMENT := y
or
# (same as above)
ccflags-y += $(CFLAGS_KCOV)
or
# for all the files in the current directory (including subdirectories)
subdir-ccflags-y += $(CFLAGS_KCOV)
