This change adds the below gpu memory tracepoint:
gpu_mem/gpu_mem_total: track global or proc gpu memory total usages
Per process tracking of total gpu memory usage in the gem layer is not
appropriate and hard to implement with trivial overhead. So for the gfx
device driver layer to track total gpu memory usage both globally and
per process in an easy and uniform way is to integrate the tracepoint in
this patch to the underlying varied implementations of gpu memory
tracking system from vendors.
Putting this tracepoint in the common trace events can not only help
wean the gfx drivers off of debugfs but also greatly help the downstream
Android gpu vendors because debugfs is to be deprecated in the upcoming
Android release. Then the gpu memory tracking of both Android kernel and
the upstream linux kernel can stay closely, which can benefit the whole
kernel eco-system in the long term.

Introduce MADV_WIPEONFORK semantics, which result in a VMA being empty
in the child process after fork. This differs from MADV_DONTFORK in one
important way.
If a child process accesses memory that was MADV_WIPEONFORK, it will get
zeroes. The address ranges are still valid, they are just empty.
If a child process accesses memory that was MADV_DONTFORK, it will get a
segmentation fault, since those address ranges are no longer valid in
the child after fork.
Since MADV_DONTFORK also seems to be used to allow very large programs
to fork in systems with strict memory overcommit restrictions, changing
the semantics of MADV_DONTFORK might break existing programs.
MADV_WIPEONFORK only works on private, anonymous VMAs.
The use case is libraries that store or cache information, and want to
know that they need to regenerate it in the child process after fork.
Examples of this would be:
- systemd/pulseaudio API checks (fail after fork) (replacing a getpid
check, which is too slow without a PID cache)
- PKCS#11 API reinitialization check (mandated by specification)
- glibc's upcoming PRNG (reseed after fork)
- OpenSSL PRNG (reseed after fork)
The security benefits of a forking server having a re-inialized PRNG in
every child process are pretty obvious. However, due to libraries
having all kinds of internal state, and programs getting compiled with
many different versions of each library, it is unreasonable to expect
calling programs to re-initialize everything manually after fork.
A further complication is the proliferation of clone flags, programs
bypassing glibc's functions to call clone directly, and programs calling
unshare, causing the glibc pthread_atfork hook to not get called.
It would be better to have the kernel take care of this automatically.
The patch also adds MADV_KEEPONFORK, to undo the effects of a prior
MADV_WIPEONFORK.

cgroup ID is currently allocated using a dedicated per-hierarchy idr
and used internally and exposed through tracepoints and bpf. This is
confusing because there are tracepoints and other interfaces which use
the cgroupfs ino as IDs.
The preceding changes made kn->id exposed as ino as 64bit ino on
supported archs or ino+gen (low 32bits as ino, high gen). There's no
reason for cgroup to use different IDs. The kernfs IDs are unique and
userland can easily discover them and map them back to paths using
standard file operations.
This patch replaces cgroup IDs with kernfs IDs.
* cgroup_id() is added and all cgroup ID users are converted to use it.
* kernfs_node creation is moved to earlier during cgroup init so that
cgroup_id() is available during init.
* While at it, s/cgroup/cgrp/ in psi helpers for consistency.
* Fallback ID value is changed to 1 to be consistent with root cgroup
ID.

Add cgroup:cgroup_freeze and cgroup:cgroup_unfreeze events,
which are using the existing cgroup tracing infrastructure.
Add the cgroup_event event class, which is similar to the cgroup
class, but contains an additional integer field to store a new
value (the level field is dropped).
Also add two tracing events: cgroup_notify_populated and
cgroup_notify_frozen, which are raised in a generic way using
the TRACE_CGROUP_PATH() macro.
This allows to trace cgroup state transitions and is generally
helpful for debugging the cgroup freezer code.

It is unwise to take spin locks from the handlers of trace events.
Mainly, because they can introduce lockups, because it introduces locks
in places that are normally not tested. Worse yet, because trace events
are tucked away in the include/trace/events/ directory, locks that are
taken there are forgotten about.
As a general rule, I tell people never to take any locks in a trace
event handler.
Several cgroup trace event handlers call cgroup_path() which eventually
takes the kernfs_rename_lock spinlock. This injects the spinlock in the
code without people realizing it. It also can cause issues for the
PREEMPT_RT patch, as the spinlock becomes a mutex, and the trace event
handlers are called with preemption disabled.
By moving the calculation of the cgroup_path() out of the trace event
handlers and into a macro (surrounded by a
trace_cgroup_##type##_enabled()), then we could place the cgroup_path
into a string, and pass that to the trace event. Not only does this
remove the taking of the spinlock out of the trace event handler, but
it also means that the cgroup_path() only needs to be called once (it
is currently called twice, once to get the length to reserver the
buffer for, and once again to get the path itself. Now it only needs to
be done once.

kernfs_node->id is currently a union kernfs_node_id which represents
either a 32bit (ino, gen) pair or u64 value. I can't see much value
in the usage of the union - all that's needed is a 64bit ID which the
current code is already limited to. Using a union makes the code
unnecessarily complicated and prevents using 64bit ino without adding
practical benefits.
This patch drops union kernfs_node_id and makes kernfs_node->id a u64.
ino is stored in the lower 32bits and gen upper. Accessors -
kernfs[_id]_ino() and kernfs[_id]_gen() - are added to retrieve the
ino and gen. This simplifies ID handling less cumbersome and will
allow using 64bit inos on supported archs.
This patch doesn't make any functional changes.

A common pattern when using xdp_redirect_map() is to create a device map
where the lookup key is simply ifindex. Because device maps are arrays,
this leaves holes in the map, and the map has to be sized to fit the
largest ifindex, regardless of how many devices actually are actually
needed in the map.
This patch adds a second type of device map where the key is looked up
using a hashmap, instead of being used as an array index. This allows maps
to be densely packed, so they can be smaller.

The bpf_redirect_map() helper used by XDP programs doesn't return any
indication of whether it can successfully redirect to the map index it was
given. Instead, BPF programs have to track this themselves, leading to
programs using duplicate maps to track which entries are populated in the
devmap.
This patch fixes this by moving the map lookup into the bpf_redirect_map()
helper, which makes it possible to return failure to the eBPF program. The
lower bits of the flags argument is used as the return code, which means
that existing users who pass a '0' flag argument will get XDP_ABORTED.
With this, a BPF program can check the return code from the helper call and
react by, for instance, substituting a different redirect. This works for
any type of map used for redirect.

This is an opt-in interface that allows a tracepoint to provide a safe
buffer that can be written from a BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT program.
The size of the buffer must be a compile-time constant, and is checked
before allowing a BPF program to attach to a tracepoint that uses this
feature.
The pointer to this buffer will be the first argument of tracepoints
that opt in; the pointer is valid and can be bpf_probe_read() by both
BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT and BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT_WRITABLE
programs that attach to such a tracepoint, but the buffer to which it
points may only be written by the latter.

Commits 109980b894e9 ("bpf: don't select potentially stale ri->map
from buggy xdp progs") and 7c3001313396 ("bpf: fix ri->map_owner
pointer on bpf_prog_realloc") tried to mitigate that buggy programs
using bpf_redirect_map() helper call do not leave stale maps behind.
Idea was to add a map_owner cookie into the per CPU struct redirect_info
which was set to prog->aux by the prog making the helper call as a
proof that the map is not stale since the prog is implicitly holding
a reference to it. This owner cookie could later on get compared with
the program calling into BPF whether they match and therefore the
redirect could proceed with processing the map safely.
In (obvious) hindsight, this approach breaks down when tail calls are
involved since the original caller's prog->aux pointer does not have
to match the one from one of the progs out of the tail call chain,
and therefore the xdp buffer will be dropped instead of redirected.
A way around that would be to fix the issue differently (which also
allows to remove related work in fast path at the same time): once
the life-time of a redirect map has come to its end we use it's map
free callback where we need to wait on synchronize_rcu() for current
outstanding xdp buffers and remove such a map pointer from the
redirect info if found to be present. At that time no program is
using this map anymore so we simply invalidate the map pointers to
NULL iff they previously pointed to that instance while making sure
that the redirect path only reads out the map once.

Introduce BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT bpf program type to access
kernel internal arguments of the tracepoints in their raw form.
>From bpf program point of view the access to the arguments look like:
struct bpf_raw_tracepoint_args {
__u64 args[0];
};
int bpf_prog(struct bpf_raw_tracepoint_args *ctx)
{
// program can read args[N] where N depends on tracepoint
// and statically verified at program load+attach time
}
kprobe+bpf infrastructure allows programs access function arguments.
This feature allows programs access raw tracepoint arguments.
Similar to proposed 'dynamic ftrace events' there are no abi guarantees
to what the tracepoints arguments are and what their meaning is.
The program needs to type cast args properly and use bpf_probe_read()
helper to access struct fields when argument is a pointer.
For every tracepoint __bpf_trace_##call function is prepared.
In assembler it looks like:
(gdb) disassemble __bpf_trace_xdp_exception
Dump of assembler code for function __bpf_trace_xdp_exception:
0xffffffff81132080 <+0>: mov %ecx,%ecx
0xffffffff81132082 <+2>: jmpq 0xffffffff811231f0 <bpf_trace_run3>
where
TRACE_EVENT(xdp_exception,
TP_PROTO(const struct net_device *dev,
const struct bpf_prog *xdp, u32 act),
The above assembler snippet is casting 32-bit 'act' field into 'u64'
to pass into bpf_trace_run3(), while 'dev' and 'xdp' args are passed as-is.
All of ~500 of __bpf_trace_*() functions are only 5-10 byte long
and in total this approach adds 7k bytes to .text.
This approach gives the lowest possible overhead
while calling trace_xdp_exception() from kernel C code and
transitioning into bpf land.
Since tracepoint+bpf are used at speeds of 1M+ events per second
this is valuable optimization.
The new BPF_RAW_TRACEPOINT_OPEN sys_bpf command is introduced
that returns anon_inode FD of 'bpf-raw-tracepoint' object.
The user space looks like:
// load bpf prog with BPF_PROG_TYPE_RAW_TRACEPOINT type
prog_fd = bpf_prog_load(...);
// receive anon_inode fd for given bpf_raw_tracepoint with prog attached
raw_tp_fd = bpf_raw_tracepoint_open("xdp_exception", prog_fd);
Ctrl-C of tracing daemon or cmdline tool that uses this feature
will automatically detach bpf program, unload it and
unregister tracepoint probe.
On the kernel side the __bpf_raw_tp_map section of pointers to
tracepoint definition and to __bpf_trace_*() probe function is used
to find a tracepoint with "xdp_exception" name and
corresponding __bpf_trace_xdp_exception() probe function
which are passed to tracepoint_probe_register() to connect probe
with tracepoint.
Addition of bpf_raw_tracepoint doesn't interfere with ftrace and perf
tracepoint mechanisms. perf_event_open() can be used in parallel
on the same tracepoint.
Multiple bpf_raw_tracepoint_open("xdp_exception", prog_fd) are permitted.
Each with its own bpf program. The kernel will execute
all tracepoint probes and all attached bpf programs.
In the future bpf_raw_tracepoints can be extended with
query/introspection logic.
__bpf_raw_tp_map section logic was contributed by Steven Rostedt

This adds two tracepoint to the cpumap. One for the enqueue side
trace_xdp_cpumap_enqueue() and one for the kthread dequeue side
trace_xdp_cpumap_kthread().
To mitigate the tracepoint overhead, these are invoked during the
enqueue/dequeue bulking phases, thus amortizing the cost.
The obvious use-cases are for debugging and monitoring. The
non-intuitive use-case is using these as a feedback loop to know the
system load. One can imagine auto-scaling by reducing, adding or
activating more worker CPUs on demand.

This patch connects cpumap to the xdp_do_redirect_map infrastructure.
Still no SKB allocation are done yet. The XDP frames are transferred
to the other CPU, but they are simply refcnt decremented on the remote
CPU. This served as a good benchmark for measuring the overhead of
remote refcnt decrement. If driver page recycle cache is not
efficient then this, exposes a bottleneck in the page allocator.
A shout-out to MST's ptr_ring, which is the secret behind is being so
efficient to transfer memory pointers between CPUs, without constantly
bouncing cache-lines between CPUs.
V3: Handle !CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL pointed out by kbuild test robot.
V4: Make Generic-XDP aware of cpumap type, but don't allow redirect yet,
as implementation require a separate upstream discussion.
V5:
- Fix a maybe-uninitialized pointed out by kbuild test robot.
- Restrict bpf-prog side access to cpumap, open when use-cases appear
- Implement cpu_map_enqueue() as a more simple void pointer enqueue
V6:
- Allow cpumap type for usage in helper bpf_redirect_map,
general bpf-prog side restriction moved to earlier patch.

All the trace events defined in include/trace/events/bpf.h are only
used when CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL is defined. But this file gets included by
include/linux/bpf_trace.h which is included by the networking code with
CREATE_TRACE_POINTS defined.
If a trace event is created but not used it still has data structures
and functions created for its use, even though nothing is using them.
To not waste space, do not define the BPF trace events in bpf.h unless
CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL is defined.

different purpose in many other places.
Similarly for CONCATENATE() macro.

Using bpf_redirect_map is allowed for generic XDP programs, but the
appropriate map lookup was never performed in xdp_do_generic_redirect().
Instead the map-index is directly used as the ifindex. For the
xdp_redirect_map sample in SKB-mode '-S', this resulted in trying
sending on ifindex 0 which isn't valid, resulting in getting SKB
packets dropped. Thus, the reported performance numbers are wrong in
commit 24251c264798 ("samples/bpf: add option for native and skb mode
for redirect apps") for the 'xdp_redirect_map -S' case.
Before commit 109980b894e9 ("bpf: don't select potentially stale
ri->map from buggy xdp progs") it could crash the kernel. Like this
commit also check that the map_owner owner is correct before
dereferencing the map pointer. But make sure that this API misusage
can be caught by a tracepoint. Thus, allowing userspace via
tracepoints to detect misbehaving bpf_progs.

Creating as specific xdp_redirect_map variant of the xdp tracepoints
allow users to write simpler/faster BPF progs that get attached to
these tracepoints.
Goal is to still keep the tracepoints in xdp_redirect and xdp_redirect_map
similar enough, that a tool can read the top part of the TP_STRUCT and
produce similar monitor statistics.

There is a need to separate the xdp_redirect tracepoint into two
tracepoints, for separating the error case from the normal forward
case.
Due to the extreme speeds XDP is operating at, loading a tracepoint
have a measurable impact. Single core XDP REDIRECT (ethtool tuned
rx-usecs 25) can do 13.7 Mpps forwarding, but loading a simple
bpf_prog at the tracepoint (with a return 0) reduce perf to 10.2 Mpps
(CPU E5-1650 v4 @ 3.60GHz, driver: ixgbe)
The overhead of loading a bpf-based tracepoint can be calculated to
cost 25 nanosec ((1/13782002-1/10267937)*10^9 = -24.83 ns).
Using perf record on the tracepoint event, with a non-matching --filter
expression, the overhead is much larger. Performance drops to 8.3 Mpps,
cost 48 nanosec ((1/13782002-1/8312497)*10^9 = -47.74))
Having a separate tracepoint for err cases, which should be less
frequent, allow running a continuous monitor for errors while not
affecting the redirect forward performance (this have also been
verified by measurements).

To make sense of the map index, the tracepoint user also need to know
that map we are talking about. Supply the map pointer but only expose
the map->id.
The 'to_index' is renamed 'to_ifindex'. In the xdp_redirect_map case,
this is the result of the devmap lookup. The map lookup key is exposed
as map_index, which is needed to troubleshoot in case the lookup failed.
The 'to_ifindex' is placed after 'err' to keep TP_STRUCT as common as
possible.
This also keeps the TP_STRUCT similar enough, that userspace can write
a monitor program, that doesn't need to care about whether
bpf_redirect or bpf_redirect_map were used.

Supplying the action argument XDP_REDIRECT to the tracepoint xdp_redirect
is redundant as it is only called in-case this action was specified.
Remove the argument, but keep "act" member of the tracepoint struct and
populate it with XDP_REDIRECT. This makes it easier to write a common bpf_prog
processing events.

There is too much overhead in the current trace_xdp_redirect
tracepoint as it does strcpy and strlen on the net_device names.
Besides, exposing the ifindex/index is actually the information that
is needed in the tracepoint to diagnose issues. When a lookup fails
(either ifindex or devmap index) then there is a need for saying which
to_index that have issues.

The return error code need to be included in the tracepoint
xdp:xdp_redirect, else its not possible to distinguish successful or
failed XDP_REDIRECT transmits.
XDP have no queuing mechanism. Thus, it is fairly easily to overrun a
NIC transmit queue. The eBPF program invoking helpers (bpf_redirect
or bpf_redirect_map) to redirect a packet doesn't get any feedback
whether the packet was actually transmitted.
Info on failed transmits in the tracepoint xdp:xdp_redirect, is
interesting as this opens for providing a feedback-loop to the
receiving XDP program.

When iterating through a map, we need to find a key that does not exist
in the map so map_get_next_key will give us the first key of the map.
This often requires a lot of guessing in production systems.
This patch makes map_get_next_key return the first key when the key
pointer in the parameter is NULL.

This work adds a number of tracepoints to paths that are either
considered slow-path or exception-like states, where monitoring or
inspecting them would be desirable.
For bpf(2) syscall, tracepoints have been placed for main commands
when they succeed. In XDP case, tracepoint is for exceptions, that
is, f.e. on abnormal BPF program exit such as unknown or XDP_ABORTED
return code, or when error occurs during XDP_TX action and the packet
could not be forwarded.
Both have been split into separate event headers, and can be further
extended. Worst case, if they unexpectedly should get into our way in
future, they can also removed [1]. Of course, these tracepoints (like
any other) can be analyzed by eBPF itself, etc. Example output:
# ./perf record -a -e bpf:* sleep 10
# ./perf script

commit 2af28b241eea816e6f7668d1954f15894b45d7e3 upstream.
trace_spmi_write_begin() and trace_spmi_read_end() both call
memcpy() with a length of "len + 1". This leads to one extra
byte being read beyond the end of the specified buffer. Fix
this out-of-bound memory access by using a length of "len"
instead.
Here is a KASAN log showing the issue:

commit 820b8963adaea34a87abbecb906d1f54c0aabfb7 upstream.
The trace event sock_exceed_buf_limit saves the prot->sysctl_mem pointer
and then dereferences it in the TP_printk() portion. This is unsafe as the
TP_printk() portion is executed at the time the buffer is read. That is,
it can be seconds, minutes, days, months, even years later. If the proto
is freed, then this dereference will can also lead to a kernel crash.
Instead, save the sysctl_mem array into the ring buffer and have the
TP_printk() reference that instead. This is the proper and safe way to
read pointers in trace events.
